Hello, my name is Britta Heermann-Wynne. I am a wife, mother, former professional dancer, Feldenkrais practitioner, and utterly in love with my new kitten, Nouwen.
I was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany. At a young age, I began to study piano and ballet. My studies led me to a professional career in dance. I was fortunate to find full-time employment. After a 10-year career in Germany, at Freibuger Tanz Theater, and Tanz Forum at the Metropolitan Opera in Cologne, my husband, 5-year old daughter, and I moved to the United States where I continued my work as a professional dancer.
Once in the US, my husband and I founded a dance company in Philadelphia. Following this, I taught 7 years at Belhaven University. It was during my time teaching that I suffered a significant neck injury. Different types of treatment were not helpful. Because my husband had success with the Feldenkrais Method in Germany, I began looking for a practitioner. I was invited to participate in a Feldenkrais Method workshop, which brought immediate pain relief to my neck. Fascinated by what I experienced, I wanted to learn more. In doing so, a passion developed which lead me to begin my studies to become a practitioner. In the summer of 2010 I officially began at the Institute for the Study of Somatic Education in Houston, Texas, and in December 2013, I graduated.
Now as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, I enjoy working with people from all stages of life, giving lessons one on one in Functional Integration®, and teaching in group settings Awareness Through Movement®. I also continue my work as ballet instructor and coach, as well as assisting choreographers in rehearsal.. My aspiration is mirrored in one of Moshe Feldenkrais invaluable quotes: “Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself.”
